The Saltery was built as a fish
processing warehouse in 1927. A salting factory was built here in 1916,
but it was demolished by the great storm and spring tide of January13,
1925, when the sea rose all the way up to the chapel causing
considerable damage.
Several buildings and wharves and large parts of the breakwater
were swept away. Today the warehouse has benn turned into accommodations
for tourists and is also used for storing people's rowing boats.
Seagulls have built their nests on the
window sills and at the right time of year you can observe them brooding
and feeding their young.
