Rapid changes in the nature of international travel and tourism, together with structural changes in the rural districts have posed new and fascinating challenges, providing students with the opportunity of studying and researching something new and exciting.
Project Political objectives promoting tourism as a rural industry, coupled with an understanding of the impact of tourism on the environment, form the basis on which the course will be built. The western part of the Lofoten Islands is one of the areas where particular focus has been placed on these aspects for a considerable number of years. The course will employ specialized expertise within the field of tourism management and other related areas in order to facilitate the practical development of decentralized and value-based sustainable tourism. Local communities in Lofoten and other rural districts will be furnished with professional expertise, creativity and stimulation with a view to developing the local community and local businesses. The content of the course is intended to be transeferrable at both national and international levels. Objectives Who should apply? Applicants must have an interest in: a) the utilization and management of local natural and cultural resources, b) developing a thorough standpoint and well-reflected values within this field c) the importance of travel and tourism, and Information and CommunicationTechnology, with regard to the development of small businesses and local communities.
